Internship Journal
Software, Hardware, Firmware, Sales When Jennifer Bulfin was 10 years old, her dad bought her an aging pinball machine. Over the years, the two tinkered with the machine, soldering broken wires back together and figuring out how electronic signals traveled through those wires to power the machine's sounds and lights. Bulfin, now a computer engineering major in a five-year program at Purdue University, has spent the past four years figuring out more complicated technology both in her classes and as a co-op employee at Tellabs. Steaks, Shakes, and Real Estate Brian Lannan wasn't interested in the restaurant industry and knew nothing about real estate before his internship with Steak n Shake Inc. But by the end of the summer, he had successfully managed a sit-down, diner-style restaurant and learned plenty about analyzing potential restaurant sites and acquiring property. An Entirely New World On almost every Saturday morning of her childhood, Carly Furry rose just before 6 a.m. so that she could plant herself in front of her television set and watch The Muppet Show. Last semester, she realized some of her wildest childhood dreams in an internship for The Jim Henson Company. An International Experience Steve Sherwood used to think computer science students were "kind of nerdy." Then he spent a summer working on a nationwide software demonstration tour and the following summer working in Germany for a multinational video games publisher.
